I got a new phone — how do I get my key, passes and notifications back?

Passes and preferences follow your account; a phone key does not. How to issue a key to the new phone, and the limits on doing it yourself.

Signing in on the new phone brings back almost everything by itself. The one thing that does not follow you is a phone key, because a key belongs to the handset it was activated on. Here is what moves on its own and what needs a step from you.

Your digital key

  1. Turn off the key on the old phone first. On the web at app.maximum.community, open Doors; in the app, go to Profile and then My access. Choose Lost your phone? (Report lost in the app) on the old key. You can hold at most two live phone keys, so the old one usually has to go.
  2. Once the old key has been reported lost and you have no live phone key, the button Send a key to my new phone appears. Tap it and enter your account password.
  3. Open the invitation email on your new phone and follow it to activate the key. The app can also pick up a waiting key invitation from the My access screen without the email.

The new key opens exactly the doors the old one did — access is attached to you, not to the key. The invitation is valid for 72 hours; if it lapses, ask the office for a new one.

Limits on issuing your own key

  • You can issue yourself at most two keys in any 30 days. After that you will see “Key reissue limit reached. Please contact the office.”
  • For 24 hours after a password reset, a new key cannot be self-issued: “Contact the office if you need one sooner.” Changing your password normally, with the old one known, does not trigger this.

Your community office can issue a key at any time, so none of these limits leaves you stuck.

Passes you have sent

Nothing to do. Passes belong to your account, not your phone, and every link your guests already have keeps working. Your Visitors list is exactly as you left it.

Notifications

Sign in on the new phone and allow notifications when asked. Each phone registers itself separately, and your channel and topic preferences carry over because they are saved to your account. The old phone's registration lingers until it stops responding, at which point it is removed automatically.

Good to know

  • A wrong password on Send a key to my new phone is refused, and the attempt is recorded.
  • A lost fob or card cannot be reported from the app — that is an office visit, and the office can issue a replacement.
