Every account on Maximum.Community is identified by its email address, and each address can belong to exactly one account. Most “two accounts” situations trace back to two different email addresses, and most “already in use” messages mean an account with that email already exists — which is usually good news.
“Already in use” when the office adds you
When the office adds a resident with an email that already has an account, nothing is duplicated: the new home is attached to the existing account, and you keep your password and settings. Two messages can appear instead:
- “User is already a resident in this community” — you are already set up here. The office should open your existing record rather than adding you again.
- “This person is already on that home” — the office tried to add you to a home you already hold.
Phone numbers are not unique, so two accounts can share a phone. That is how duplicates happen: a resident was added once with a work email and once with a personal one.
If you really do have two accounts
Accounts cannot be merged. The fix is to choose one and consolidate:
- Decide which email you want to keep — the one you can always read.
- Ask the office to make sure your home (or homes) is on that account, using Add a home on your resident record if needed.
- Ask the office to remove the other account from the community. Removing someone's only or primary home deactivates that account and its resident access.
Passes, visitor history and notification preferences stay with the account that created them, so send any passes you still need from the account you keep.
Homes in more than one community
You do not need a second account for a second community. One login can hold a role in several communities, and you switch between them in the app. Ask each office to add you with the same email.
Good to know
- If you simply want a different email on your one account, the office changes it for you — see “How do I change my email address?”.
- Deleting an account you no longer use is a separate, delayed process — see “Delete my account or request my data”.
