My recurring pass or quiet hours seem off by a few hours — how do time zones work?

Schedules and quiet hours run on the community's configured time zone; pass times display in the viewer's local time. What that means and how the office sets the zone.

Everything with a clock in it — recurring pass windows, quiet hours, the times on a pass — is judged in one time zone: the one your community office has set for the community. If something looks a few hours off, it is almost always the difference between that zone and the clock on the phone you are looking at.

Schedules run on community time

  • A recurring window such as “weekdays 9:00 to 17:00” means 9 to 5 in the community's time zone. It does not matter where the guest, the guard or you happen to be.
  • The zone travels with the pass: the community that issued the pass sets the clock, not the gate that scans it.
  • Quiet hours for notifications are checked in the community's time zone in the same way.

What your guest sees on the pass

The Valid Until date and time on the pass page is shown in the local time of the phone viewing it. A guest looking at the pass from another time zone sees a different clock time for the same moment — the pass is not wrong, the display is simply local. When a pass is outside its schedule, the “come back at…” note is shown in the community's time zone, because that is when the gate will accept it.

Setting a window while you are away

When you create a pass and set an Until time, the time you pick is read from your own device's clock and converted to an exact moment. If you are travelling two zones west and set “6:00 PM”, that is 6 PM where you are, which is 8 PM at home. Set the time as it will be for you, or do the arithmetic before you tap.

For property managers: check the community zone

  1. Go to Settings and open the General tab.
  2. Choose the community's zone from the list — Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Arizona, Hawaii or Alaska.
  3. Save.

New communities start on Eastern Time, so a community in another zone that never changed this will see every schedule shifted by the difference.

Good to know

  • Quiet hours are set on the web at app.maximum.community, not in the app, and they follow the same community zone as everything else.
  • If the zone is ever missing or invalid, schedules fall back to the server's clock rather than refusing visitors, and a warning is logged — worth fixing rather than living with.
