Why don't I see a gate to open in the app, or why did a second tap do nothing?

The remote-open card needs three things to be true, and a six-second cooldown swallows a second tap on purpose.

The remote-open button is only offered when three separate things are true, and a second tap within a few seconds is ignored on purpose. Both are the usual reasons it looks “broken”. Here is how it works.

Why there is no gate to open

The My gates card on the app's Home screen (and the Gates page on the web) lists a gate only when:

  • your community has remote opening switched on,
  • that gate has been set up for remote opening, and
  • you have been given permission to open it, and that permission has not expired.

If any of those is missing the list is empty: the app shows no card at all, and the web shows No Gates Available with a note that you do not have permission to open any gates remotely. Ask your community office if you think you should.

Why a second tap did nothing

There is a six-second cooldown per person per gate. A double tap or an impatient retry is swallowed so the barrier is not cycled twice — a barrier closing onto a car mid-cycle is the failure this prevents. If you genuinely need the gate again, for a second car say, wait a few seconds and tap again. The web list also refreshes itself every 30 seconds.

What the button tells you

  • In the app, tap the gate, confirm with Open now, and the button briefly shows Opened. If the gate did not respond it shows Didn't open — try again; pressing again then is deliberate and allowed.
  • On the web, swipe the slider fully to the right. A Gate Opened message confirms it.

Every attempt, successful or not, is logged.

Opening during an intercom call

When a visitor calls you from the gate and you answer in the app, the Open button on the call needs no separate gate permission — answering the call is the authorisation. It still requires your community to have remote opening switched on, the call to be live and tied to a gate, and the same six-second cooldown applies. Once the call has ended, Open no longer works.

Doors are separate

If your community uses door access control, the Doors page lists only doors the office has marked as openable from the app and that you have access to. A door you open with a fob is not automatically a door you can open from your phone.
