No. A visitor pass is a link, not an app. When you send a pass, your guest receives a web link that opens in any phone browser — there is nothing to install, no account to create and nothing to sign in to. Everything they need to get through the gate is on that one page.
What your guest sees
- Their name, who they are Visiting (your name and unit), and the Valid Until date and time.
- A QR code for the guard or the gate camera to scan. The code changes on a timer — the page shows Refreshes in with a countdown — so the pass on their screen is always the current one.
- A six-digit entry code under the heading No camera at the gate? Type this code, for gates with a keypad. The code only appears while the pass is valid.
- Your community's visitor rules, and an Add to Apple Wallet button.
The page works on any phone. The Wallet button is shown to everyone; on an Android phone or a computer it simply downloads a file that device will not use, so guests there can ignore it.
Will a screenshot work?
Not on its own. The QR code refreshes every few minutes, so a screenshot taken earlier scans as expired. A screenshot, a saved Wallet card or a forwarded link proves only that someone has the pass — not who is holding it. A guard who scans one of these is asked to confirm who the guest is before admitting them, and may ask for the last four digits of the phone number on the pass. That is an extra step rather than a refusal, but the live link is the fast path: ask your guest to open it fresh at the gate.
Good to know
- While the pass is valid, the page keeps the screen awake and turns the brightness up so the code scans cleanly.
- If the pass window has not opened yet, the page says so and switches to valid on its own when the time comes — no reload needed.
- Anyone with the link can open it, so treat the link like a key and send it only to the person it is for.
- A guest who saved the pass to Wallet should still open the live link when they reach the gate; the Wallet card is a backup, not the fast lane.
